Running on a MAC

Requires some software which allows installation and operation of software designed to run with Microsoft®'s Windows®. There are several packages available such as Winebottler, Wineskin and PlayOnMac.

Using PlayOnMac

For this example we will be using PlayOnMac. Download the software from http://www.playonmac.com/en/. Now is also a good time to download the PxPlus installation EXE from the PVX Plus download page at http://www.pvxplus.com/pgsrvr.pvp?pg=downloads. When the downloads have completed, the install procedure can be started.

The first procedure is to drag the PlayOnMac icon to the Application folder. Open the Application folder and select the PlayOnMac icon. This will begin the First Use installation which will check for the existence of XQuartz (X11) and ask to install it if it is not present.

When XQuartz is done installing the system will need to be restarted to activate XQuartz.

After the reboot, restart PlayOnMac by using Finder and opening the Applications window and clicking on the PlayOnMac icon. It will now continue and install Microsoft®'s fonts.

When the software is installed and configured PlayOnMac can be closed. The software will run from the icons that will be installed. PlayOnMac will only be required when changes need to be made to the configuration.

Installing PxPlus

We are now going to begin the install of the program that was downloaded from PVX Plus. Select Install and choose the Install a Non-listed Program option. Select Install a program in a New Virtual Drive and give a name such as PVX Plus or some other. Please click on the Configure Wine check box the first time it presents itself. When The Wine Configuration window opens press the OK button to continue. Now select the Browse button and navigate thru the directory display to find downloaded program to install. This will begin the install-shield wizard routine that will be the normal install procedure for Windows.

The install routine will stall after Registering MIME info. At this point X11 should be the application showing in the title bar. Click on X11 and Quit the application. The PlayOnMac application will indicate that an error has occurred but clicking on Next will allow the procedure to continue.

Installing WindX Plug-in

We are now going to begin the install of the program that was downloaded from PVX Plus. Select Install and choose the Install a Non-listed Program option. Select Install a program in a New Virtual Drive and give a name such as PVX Plus or some other. Next leave the all selections blank and press the OK button. Now select the Browse button and navigate thru the directory display to find downloaded program to install. This will begin the install-shield wizard routine that will be the normal install procedure for Windows.

Making Shortcuts

We will now create shortcuts that will run the program you are installing.

Within PlayOnMac select the program from the list file items and give it a name for the shortcut. Do this for every item that you may need including the Activation program. When done, select I don't want to make another shortcut.

Now you can select the configure link to setup a shortcut with any arguments you require to run the software you've downloaded. You will need to run the Activation program to enter the activation information or add -d to the shortcut argument to use the demo activation. For a WindX connection add windx/windx -arg windx.cfg to the shortcut argument.

Using ProvideX

If you are using ProvideX instead of PxPlus you will likely need to create and edit an INI file, otherwise the screen layouts will not render correctly. ProvideX uses a default fixed font (Fixedsys) that is not available on MAC's nor is it installed with the Microsoft fonts when installing PlayOnMac.

Use the 'open directory' option in PlayOnMac to go the ProvideX install directory and create/edit the INI to include a FONT section similar to the following:

[Font]
Points=16
Charset=0
Name=Courier New

You can chose any 'fixed size' font, however Courier New is compatible with PxPlus.
